Road and Para-Cycling World Championships 2024

From September 21 to September 29, the canton of Zurich will become the stage for the Road and Para-Cycling World Championships. The race course runs, among other places, directly through Küsnacht, allowing us to experience world-class cycling up close. With the motto “The races should come to the people,” the routes go through Zurich's city center, along the lake and past landmarks in the canton of Zurich. The finish line for all races is at Sechseläutenplatz in Zurich. The courses for the approximately 53 races to be held were determined by the international cycling federation . The first four days of racing are the time trials, which take place on the lakeside road through Küsnacht along "Seestrasse". This is followed by the road races (City Circuit), which go over "Tobelmüli", through "Schmalzgrueb" towards "Allmeld", along the "Bergstrasse" to "Alte Landstrasse" through Küsnacht.

To ensure that the challenges arising from traffic restrictions can be effectively managed, the organization is already operating at full capacity today.

Information Event

The municipality of Küsnacht is organizing an information event for the public on Tuesday, May 21 2024, at 19.30 o'clock at Heslihalle (Untere Heslibachstrasse 33). During this event, further information will be provided about the exact race times, the time restrictions for the individual districts, and proposed solutions.

Traffic Management / Access Permit / Public Transport

Traffic Management and Access Permit Information for Motorized Individual Traffic (Car/Taxi): During the official race times, neither driving on nor crossing the race course is allowed for motorized individual traffic. After the end of the race, access will again be unrestricted for all road users. Traffic in the Zurich area will be severely restricted. Please bypass the area widely. Use alternative modes of transport if possible.

During the road races from September 25 to 29 2024, the city of Zurich can only be accessed by car and motorcycle with an access permit. However, this permit does not guarantee unhindered access. You must apply for the access permit in advance. At the intersection Zumikon/Itschnach, the police will set up a traffic checkpoint where every vehicle wanting to travel to Küsnacht or Zurich will be checked. This checkpoint will lead to significant traffic congestion on A52 as well as in Küsnacht/Zumikon. Longer waiting times can be expected. Residents of the areas Itschnach/Schübel/Rumensee/Schiedhalden/Goldbach/Bogleren are strongly advised to apply for the access permit so that they can travel from the intersection Zumikon/Itschnach towards Küsnacht.

Information for Slow Traffic (Bicycle, Pedestrians, Wheelchair Users): If you want to cross the race course, this is possible at several locations. Please pay attention to the race progress and the instructions of the route security. The bicycle is the best means of transport for getting around during the race days, whether it's to visit the cycling event or for daily commutes.

The public transport network of the municipality KüsnachtLocationis also affected by the traffic restrictions.

Generally, from September 21 to 24, no restrictions (except for delays) are expected. However, the routes will be adjusted as follows:
